Procter & Gamble’s Releases Researcher Bill of Rights
As published February 2006 and released to the BBC
At P&G, innovation is a key component of our company success. Integral to our innovative work is our partnerships with researchers, scientists and academicians around the world. Our commitment is to maintain the highest standards of research integrity, sound science and open communication during the research process. When collaborations involve publications of data, including abstracts, manuscripts or meeting presentations, or when these collaborations involve clinical trial work, preclinical studies, or in vivo/in vitro investigations, the following principles will guide our research partnerships:
- Researchers will have access to all data relevant to their work with P&G.
- Research collaborators have our commitment to their independent analysis of data. They will have full access to all relevant data to confirm the accuracy of statements and conclusions published with them as co-authors, or when they are cited by P&G as a co-author.
- Research authors will define and control the content and direction of any publications resulting from their work, with final approval authority.
- Research authors will define and control the content and direction of any publications resulting from their work. Research collaborators will be provided writing assistance for publications only if requested by the researcher. Final authority of all publication content rests with the researcher. Researchers own the analysis and conclusions; P&G owns the proprietary data.
- We respect and support researchers' independence in their studies and publications. At the same time, because of the proprietary nature of our work, it is the responsibility of researchers to respect and protect all data. Therefore, research collaborators will be required to sign a Confidential Disclosure Agreement (CDA) that defines how and to whom the raw data may be shared, but in no way restricts their ability to publish the findings from their studies.
